This
is one of the most wonderful weekly events in Phoenix. High energy
dance instruction led by the Kawambe-Omowale African Drum and Dance
Theatre, the valley's foremost West African dance performance group. Live drumming, led by Dr. Mark Sunkett, provide the driving rhythms for the dance class. This free class is generously offered by the Dance Theatre. |

Whether playing the drums or dancing, you will love participating in this energetic event! AzDrumAndDance STRONGLY recommends this weekly session. It is great for all ages. |

If
you want to come and drum, remember: THIS IS NOT A DRUM CLASS - IT IS
A DANCE CLASS. Coming to drum for the dancers requires a good deal of
stamina and some basic understanding of west african drumming. You need
to be able to quickly understand and play the part that is given to
you throughout the whole class and keep it at the right place in the
context with the bass drums.
Do not expect that you can just "go with the flow". It's the
drummers responsibility to provide rhythm and energy for the dancers
and not to take energy away by struggling to follow the rhythm.
Drumming for dancers is the destination for a drummer, but if you have
never drummed before, we suggest you should attend drum classes to learn
the basics of drumming prior to attempting to drum for this Saturday
dance class.
