Amadou Kienou, a recognized master drummer from Burkina Faso, came to the USA to visit his friend Olivier Tarpaga, they both travelled from San Diego to Arizona to teach a workshop for djembe music of the Malinke people. Amadou even agreed to perform his new solo program on Saturday evening at Domba studio. Some of the most amazing drumming Arizona has seen.....

Photos of the drum workshops
We worked on Wolosodon and on Djaka. Even the hands of the more experienced drummers hurt on Monday. But is was absolutely worth it..

breakfast before the workshops begin..

Olivier and Amadou!!

Lunch break...

All right... looks like we can go
back to this place next time....

Amadou in front of his car... Or maybe
this is Bruno's car???

Amadou signing a tour poster that
made it into our drum room way before he made it himself...

Thanks for a wonderful weekend Amadou and Olivier.
We look forward to seing you again in Arizona!

(note the specially customized Doundoun stick in Oliviers hand. Extends the life of any Doundoun significantly...;:-)

Amadou Kienou's solo program:
A mindblowing experience of Djembe perfection
Amadou played his full solo program at Domba Studio. The Performance was organized by Makalani and Danielle (thank you!!!).
Almost 3 hours of incredible drumming.

All the following pictures were taken by our friend Masato Kubota. .

Hommage to Amadou's father. We did
not understand the words, but we saw
the images....

Carried away...

... by creating ...

magical and ....

... wonderful music

As if unworldly drumming on the Djembe alone
wouldn't do it. One man playing Tama and
Djembe at the same time - sounding like a whole ensemble. Awsome...

Olivier and Danielle dancing to the music

Olivier and Amadou play together...

... a lesson in perfect groove
